Annual Giving Campaign
It is our policy that no child be denied a chance to participate in a program because of financial hardship. Your donation makes this possible! Membership and program fees at the Y do not cover all the costs to support these vital community programs. Each year, more than 1,700 individuals receive financial assistance. We truly need your help with this program and appreciate the generosity of others. AWAY Member Program
Always Welcome at A YMCA! When you are out of town you may use any Y as a member free of charge (most Y's participate, there is a select few that may not)! Pretty cool, huh? Be prepared to have them call and verify that you are a member in good standing at our Y. Please see our AWAY Member Program page for more information.
Cancellations Regarding Programs
Very seldom does this happen, but we must have a policy just in case it does. In the event of insufficient enrollment, we may need to cancel a class. If this occurs you will be contacted and will receive a refund via your choice - refund back to original payment method or system credit to be used for another program. Simple policy, huh?
Cancellations due to Lack of Payment/ISF
Memberships that have a balance of a return fee for 2 months - without payment received will be canceled due to Lack of Payment/ISF. We understand that things happen so we allow this grace period. Balance must be paid in full before using the facility or before any member on the membership is registered for any classes or programs.
Cancellations due to Weather (Programs)
If a class or event is canceled due to weather or a circumstance beyond our control, we will do our best to provide a makeup class. Refunds will not be issued. This includes swimming lessons if the pool is closed due to sanitation reasons.
Cancellations due to Weather (Group Fitness Classes)
For the safety of our instructors and to keep it simple for our members the following policy will occur with Group Fitness Classes when Norfolk Public Schools opens late, closes for all day, or closes early:
- If Norfolk Public Schools closes for all day there will be no fitness classes.
- If Norfolk Public Schools has a late start (example 10 am) all classes will run beginning at 10 am.
- If Norfolk Public Schools closes early (example 2 pm) all classes that run from 2 pm on will not be held.
If you are used to attending group fitness classes and are unable to due to weather, feel free to get a workout in upstairs in the Wellness Center (we are usually open if Norfolk Public Schools calls off)! Please see our Fitness? We got it! or Communication Page for more information.
Celebrate at the YMCA
Group rentals available! Must be reserved in advance and may include the pool, gymnasiums, walleyball/racquetball courts, laser tag, bounce house and more! Discounted rates apply to groups of 10 or more. We have a popular facility so everything is subject to availability. Do not mistake this for Birthday Parties, we have special packages for those! Closing due to Weather (entire YMCA)
Very seldom does the YMCA close for all day or close early due to weather, but when there are times we must to ensure the safety of our staff and our members. If you are questioning if the Y will be closed it will be advertised via our Facebook page, Website, Mobile App, a group text will be sent out (so be sure you are signed up for the Announcements group) and it will be announced on local radio stations.
Available to non-members who want to access our facility for a day (good until close of business of purchase date). We have such a large facility and many things to offer so whether your day fee purpose is to play noon ball, take a group fitness class, swim laps or run on the treadmill upstairs the full day fee must be paid at any time of day. There is no time limit nor is there a discount for a short use. When you pay a day fee you have access to the entire facility besides the fitness centers; in order to access the fitness centers the $5 upgrade fee will need to be paid. Paying a day fee often? Become a member—you’d probably save $!
The following are Day Fees prices:
- Family (husband, wife and children) - $15
- Adults (ages 18 & up) - $10
- Fitness Center Upgrade (ages 18 & up to access the co-ed whirlpool, individual saunas and men's only steam room) - $5
- Youth (ages 6-17) - $5
- Youth under the age of 5 are FREE with a paying adult!
Financial Assistance (Sponsored Memberships/Programs)
The Y has a great mission for community involvement and this includes that no child is denied the chance to participate at the Y due to the inability to pay. The Y believes a strong sense of ownership and pride is developed if the recipient has contributed to the cost of their Y involvement; therefore, those eligible will be asked to pay some portion of the fees for either membership and/or program. Healthy Family Home
Focus your family’s efforts to live healthier around the Y’s pillars of a healthy family home and take small steps using the information and tools we provide. Your family will soon be feeling stronger and living healthier. Learn what works for others and make healthy a regular part of family life.
We’ve got it! We have an indoor track upstairs in our Wellness Center, as well as gyms available on our main level.
Lockers may be rented for your convenience. Full lockers are $75/year or $6.25/month. Half lockers are $39.96/year or $3.33/month. If your membership is set up monthly your locker fee will be charged with your membership monthly. If you membership is set up to be paid annually your locker fee will be charged annually with your membership dues. All lockers with locks on them at close of business that are not being rented are subject to having locks cut off.
Lost and Found Items
You are not the only one who forgot something! So, we keep things for 30 days and anything that is not claimed at that time is given to a charitable organization.
Refund Policy (Programs)
Must be canceled at least one day prior to the beginning of class to receive a full system credit. In the event that a person has paid for a program in full where a non-refundable deposit was required, the deposit portion for the fee will not be refunded. After a program has started a full system credit will not be given for any reason. A partial system credit may be given if a doctor’s note is presented, within 2 days of the first missed class stating that the participant may no longer participate in the program due to a medical reason. All credits will be given as a system credit and will not be refunded via card, cash or check. System credits can be applied to any future program registration for any person on the membership that was refunded.
Beginning June 1, 2016 any Big Deals that are used for membership or program at the Norfolk Family YMCA and that same membership or program is later canceled; no credit will be given for any amount that Big Deals were used for in the original transaction. Any amount that was paid with cash, check or debit/credit card will be credited if the cancelation is made prior to the program deadline.
Most of our programs are available for online registration (give us your email address and visit our website to set up your account) and via our Mobile App! We know online registration is convenient so if you need assistance in setting up your account please contact us we would be happy to help! Registrations are first come, first serve and are accepted until class starts, fills, or until the registration deadline. Registration is not taken on accounts with an outstanding balance or without payment. Membership must be valid at time of registration and throughout program to receive member rate. If individual is a member when they registered for the program but membership becomes inactive before programs ends either the membership must be reactivated or the difference in the non-member fee must be paid. To receive the member rate the individual that the program is for must be a member. This includes birthday parties - the birthday child must be a member to receive the member rate. If there is a balance on an account you will not be able to register in-house or on-line.
Any payment returned for any reason will be subject to a $30 Return Fee. That fee along with the original payment must be paid before using the facility or registering any member on the membership for any programs.
