YMCA Membership Information

With your YMCA Membership you get so many things! All land and water fitness classes on the group exercise schedule are included with a membership, so take advantage of this! Also, you get use of the pool, gymnasiums, upstairs exercise center with indoor track and great strength equipment. Also, play all the racquetball and wallyball you want, because it is free with your membership! We also have a game room on our main level with table tennis, air hockey, and foosball!

When you are a member, most regular programs are 1/2 price compared to the nonmember price!  So, why not sign up?

When signing up as a member you get a FREE equipment orientation or personal training consultation - we want you to get the most out of your membership! Free equipment orientations are also available for current members, so if you are a current member and you have not had one, stop by the front desk and get scheduled today. Take advantage of learning all the machines to better your fitness goals-whatever they may be!

The YMCA offers memberships in 14 categories, so we are sure to have the membership type that fits your needs!  For specific membership types and rates please see our Rates page under Memberships.

The following is general information in regards to Memberships:

NOTE

Any child on a family membership,18 or older must pay the $5 upgrade fee to use the fitness center (good for one day) or have their own fitness center membership.  Use of a parent’s code will suspend membership privileges for all members on the membership; please don’t make us do this we don’t like to!

Changing Your Membership Type

Not a problem, memberships may be downgraded once a year or upgrade at any time!

Joiner’s Fee—A one-time $50 Joiner’s Fee is applied to all new memberships (except youth).  This does not affect current members unless the membership lapses for more than 60 days.  Good news for full-time college students-Bring in your current class schedule (minimum 12 credit hours) and we waive the Joiner’s Fee!

Payment Options

We of course accept cash!  As well as Visa, Mastercard and Discover.  Checks are also accepted please note that as of March 18, 2010 all checks submitted to the YMCA will be ran through as an EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer).  Checks from businesses will not be ran through as an EFT.

Pay Monthly

Our most affordable, popular option!  Pay automatically via bank draft or credit/debit card and you choose, on the 1st or the 15th. Sorry, no cash payments or paying each month at the Welcome Center.  Membership renews each month until canceled.  Pro-rated dues and the Joiner’s Fee may apply to new memberships.

Pay Annually

Keep it simple and pay once a year!  Pay via cash, check, or credit/debit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).  Pro-rated dues and the Joiner’s Fee may apply to new memberships.

Cancellation Policy

You may cancel at anytime, but we would hate to see you go! If you must, fill out a cancellation form at the Welcome Center.  Cancelation form must be filled out before the 20th of the month to avoid paying an additional month.  So keep in mind if you pay monthly you will be charged one final time and if you paid in full, one month’s fees will be deducted from your refund.

Card Scanning

All members (age 6 and up) will receive a membership card that must be scanned each time the facility is entered.  Cards need to be scanned even if the door is already open.  We track usages of our facility and in the event of an emergency we may need to know if you have entered the facility.  Do you always forget your membership card?  No problem—download our Mobile App (Norfolk Family YMCA) and use that to enter our facility!  Not sure how it works?  Stop by our Welcome Center—we would be glad to help!  If you forget your membership card you must check in at the Welcome Center.  Giving your card to someone else will suspend your membership privileges and we will catch you, so don’t try it!

Tours

Tours are available during all hours of operation, however it is best to come between 8 am and 8 pm Monday-Friday.
